Introducing the Men’s Hoka Tecton X 3

The newest version of the Tecton X was tested by Jim Walsely at UTMB where he became the first American Male to earn first place in a course record setting time. Most recently Ludovic Pommeret set the Hardrock 100 course record in the Men’s Tecton X 3. This shoe just came out and it already owns two of the most important Course Records in Ultrarunning. Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve most likely seen the Tecton X and Tecton X2 at an ultra-marathon near you. With these important updates you are sure to see even more at a starline

Why is the Men’s Tecton X 3 setting records?

The newest model has two layers of their lightest and most responsive PEBA foam. Situated between the two layers of PEBA resides the parallel carbon plate engine with stability winglets. The parallel carbon plates maximize the trail runners ability to achieve the highest combination of energy return and speed without losing control on technical trails. When you smash this high powered engine between the responsive and soft PEBA segments you have a shoe does 3 amazing things;

  1. It returns an enormous amount of energy on the foot strike

  2. The softness allows for reduced recovery times between workouts and races

  3. It maintains excellent stability over technical terrain without sacrificing speed.

Changes in the Upper

The most noticeable change you will see is the new integrated bootie. This bootie is an extremely stretchy material allowing it to comfortably conform to a number of different ankle and lower calf circumferences while keeping out trial debris.

The Matryx® upper is significantly more stretchy than the previous uppers of the Tecton X and Tecton X 2. This stretchiness combined with the redesigned vamp provides significantly more forefoot volume compared to previous models.

Changes in the Outsole

Hoka knows what’s good for trail runners and Hoka knows that no matter how fast you can run you have to be able to navigate the worst terrain imaginable. That’s why Hoka kept Vibram’s lightest and stickiest tread, the Vibram® Megragrip Litebase, on the outsole of the Men’s Hoka Tecton X 3. With that said Hoka gave the outsole pattern a terrific update with an increased lug depth of 1mm and a tried and true chevron outsole pattern. Trail runners who wanted more grip from the Tecton X and Tecton X 2 got their wish with significantly improved grip and lug pattern.
